Pinot Noir 'Stephanie's Dream' 2013
Yarra Valley VIC, SV 2013
$50.00 / bottle
$600.00 / case
NOSE | Vibrant summer berries, quality oak with savoury notes in the background.
PALATE | The palate demonstrates a very elegant style with sour cherries at the forefront, emphasised by tension and texture brought on by lively acid and tannins. The wine is medium bodied and an intricate assemblage of red and dark cherry, weaving in spice and stem. Acidity gives a lightness and tannins structure without intrusion while hints of beautiful barrel character gives this wine incredible complexity.
METHOD | Hand-picked fruit from a premium Halliday rated 5 star vineyard - YarraLoch in the Yarra Valley. Wild yeast-fermented in open oak vats (foudres) with whole berries, then matured in new French barrels. Minimal sulphur and filtration was used.
NOTES | Wow! Just smelling this wine is enjoyment in itself. It is long, savoury and elegant with an ever so delicate stalky presence of cherries and roses supported by a gentle spine of dusty tannin. It comes out of one of the Yarra Valley's premium five star vineyards and is everything Yarra Valley Pinot is about. Juicy, moorish; heaven in a glass. This is an exercise in restraint, both the winemaker's and my own. I'm loving it. Fingers crossed I keep enough in stock for you.
"It’s smoky. It’s herbal. It’s strewn with leaves and spices, like a wine windswept, like a savoury storm. It’s cherried at heart, of course, sour-cherried, almost cranberried, with streaks of bitterness and spots of stalk, all strung out, all pulling on the wine, all building tension, like points of drama, like it’s plotting to mesmerise you. It succeeded. I sat, at the desk, at work, enthralled. This is a wine" - 97 Points Campbell Mattinson
