The Alkimi Mix
Six fascinating wines from one of Australia's emerging winemaking talents.
Below are six wines guaranteed to impress. We love them all and think you will too.
A 6 bottle half case contains:
1. Marsanne 2023 (Yarra Valley) Citrus and grapefruit arrive bright and focused, apricot and fleshy peach emerging as the wine opens up, cream and white pepper threading through to a finish that is textural, warm, and gently spiced. The acidity and phenolics weave together with an elegance that feels almost architectural - present and purposeful, never intrusive. Smooth, layered, and very very interesting.
2. Chardonnay 2023 (Yarra Valley) Stone fruit and citrus open with easy clarity, lemon and grapefruit sharpening the mid-palate before cream and a gentle doughy richness round everything out. The acidity is bright and natural, the oak integrated and textural rather than assertive, the finish clean and lingering with a savoury, moreish edge that keeps you coming back. Medium-bodied, generous, and considerably more interesting than it lets on.
3. Light Dreams 2023 (Yarra Valley) A gentle savoury note from whole bunch stems keeps things honest and a flinty edge keeping them interesting. Soft and pillowy from the first sip, red plum and sour cherry carrying genuine juiciness, tomato leaf and light chocolate adding quiet depth beneath. A splash of co-fermented Chardonnay lifts the finish with bright citrus clarity - unexpected, and entirely welcome. Low alcohol, no sulphur, no filtration, no additions. Just fruit, fermentation, and very good instincts.
4. Grenache 2020 (Heathcote) Soft red fruit leads with warmth and generosity, earthy savouriness and leather adding quiet depth that grounds the sweetness without dulling it. Wild fennel and pencil shaving thread through the mid-palate, vanilla bean and gentle spice rounding everything into something smooth, warm, and beautifully considered. The tannins are silky, the finish long and warming without ever feeling heavy.
5. Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 (Yarra Valley) Blackcurrant and gentle leather lead with elegant cool-toned precision, lavender blossom adding an unexpected floral lift through the mid-palate. Blueberry and blood orange arrive at the finish alongside a clean tomato leaf brightness that keeps everything refreshing and alive. The tannins are fine and lacy, the acidity present and purposeful - medium-bodied, effortless, and possessed of a claret-style polish that feels entirely unhurried.
6. Pinot Noir 2022 (Yarra Valley) Cherry and raspberry lead before darker, more savoury currents take over - forest floor, spice, a whisper of blood orange threading through with quiet authority. The tannins are suede-like and considered, fresh acidity keeping everything lifted and alive, the finish long and layered with the kind of depth that suggests patience will be rewarded. Unfined, unfiltered, and entirely its own thing.
