NOSE - Dark and red berries lead with quiet intensity, plum pudding and liquorice settling in behind, white pepper and soft herbs threading through with cool-climate precision. Aromatic, fragrant, and already asking to be taken seriously.
PALATE - Ripe berry fruit and plum arrive with depth and purpose, raspberry adding an unexpected brightness, liquorice and savoury earthiness grounding everything beneath. The tannins are fine and silky, acidity brisk and focused, white pepper arriving at the finish with the kind of authority that lingers. Medium-bodied, spice-laced, and structured for those who know what they're looking for - and patient enough to find it.
NOTES - Beechworth doesn't shout. It doesn't need to. Tucked into the northeast corner of Victoria, it produces Shiraz of uncommon elegance - cool-climate, spice-driven, and entirely its own thing. The 2023 vintage was difficult and uncompromising, reduced yields concentrating everything worth keeping. What Baarmutha did with that fruit is the work of a serious producer - hand-tended, hand-selected, basket-pressed, natural yeast fermented, French oak aged, unfiltered, and stored underground until ready. Minimal intervention in the service of maximum expression. This is boutique winemaking at its most considered, from a region serious wine lovers are paying close attention to.
