Lane's End Chardonnay 2023 Macedon Ranges VIC
Layered, focused, and unmistakably serious.
NOSE - Fragrant and intense, lemon-lime and grapefruit lead, cider apple and a flash of struck match adding real complexity. Spice drifts through beneath - layered, focused, and unmistakably serious from the first breath.
PALATE - Grapefruit and green apple arrive with precision, stone fruit and almond meal adding depth through the mid-palate, a vibrant chalky acidity giving the whole thing real drive. The structure is linear and pure, intensity sustained through to a long, focused finish. Complex without ever losing its core clarity - the kind of wine that rewards attention rather than demanding it.
NOTES - Hand-picked from vines nearing forty years old, whole bunch pressed, wild fermented in 25% new French Taransaud oak, fifty percent malolactic, monthly battonage, ten months in barrel before two further months on fine lees. Decades of root depth meeting patient, considered winemaking - this is Chardonnay built on both. Linear, pure, and precise, with a complexity that unfolds slowly rather than all at once. Macedon Ranges at its most serious - and some of the country's most respected critics agree.
"There is focus and bright, fresh drive here, with fruit doing all the talking and a lingering, harmonious farewell. This will reward keeping." - Huon Hooke, The Real Review, 92 points
"The palate is a delight, with searing acid, medium body and relatively low alcohol, with zippiness, tingly minerality and saltiness to boot. It's drinking incredibly well now but will get even better." - Brendan Black, Wine Pilot, 93+ points, September 2025
VEGAN FRIENDLY - Like all of our wines, no animal products were used in the making of this wine.
SPECS - Macedon Ranges, 12.5% Alc/Vol, 7.5 standard drinks, Pres. 220 added, 750ml
